Providing parents and children

a  safe and nurturing learn through

play environment.

About Us

Southside Mothers Day Out is a fully licensed program that provides one day per week care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.  Our enriching program offers children the opportunity to become more independent and develop self-confidence; expand their learning through play; develop relationships with other children and express their thoughts, feelings and ideas in a fun and happy environment.

It also provides parents with a well-deserved time away to complete other tasks or just take a break.

Parent Involvement

SSMDO is a parent co-operative requiring participation from all parents. This includes participation at three general meetings per year; acting as duty parent one day per child per term; and performing one other parent task from a variety of positions.

Teacher/Child Ratio

At SSMDO we can have a maximum total of 18 children per day.  This includes up to 2 infants (12-19 months), plus a combination of toddlers (19-36 months) and preschoolers (3-5 years).

A minimum of two paid staff members and one parent volunteer are on duty to supervise. In addition, for the better part of each term we host one student from the early childhood education program of Grant MacEwan College.

Facility

We are located in the lower level of a Strathcona-area church. We have two bright sunny rooms for playing and snacks, plus a comfortable separate sleeping room for naptimes. Our area includes a child-friendly bathroom and extra sinks. We have direct access to a fenced playground with child-safe play equipment and sandbox (for our private use only). During poor weather we play in the gymnasium.
